Thousands of Catholic faithful from the Diocese of Mangalore gathered at their respective parishes to participate in the Palm Sunday celebrations. Churches throughout the region organized elaborate special services, heartfelt prayers, and symbolic processions to honor this pivotal moment in Christian history. At the Holy Spirit Church in Mukka, located within the Surathkal deanery, the main celebrations were presided over by the Bishop of Mangalore, Most Reverend Fr Peter Paul Saldanha. The Bishop, adorned in traditional red vestments that symbolize both the passion and the royalty of Christ, performed the blessing of the palm leaves. He then led a meaningful procession that recreated the biblical scene of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, with parishioners following in prayerful contemplation.

In his homily during the service, Bishop Saldanha emphasized that Palm Sunday transcends mere ritualistic observance. "As we hold these blessed palm leaves, we signify our heartfelt readiness to welcome Christ into the ‘Jerusalem' of our own hearts and lives," the Bishop stated. The liturgy at Holy Spirit Church included the solemn chanting of the Passion of the Lord, enhancing the reflective nature of the service. The celebrations were concelebrated by Fr Stany Pinto, the parish priest of Mukka, and Fr Praveen Dsouza, the designated director of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) in Mangalore.
Udupi Diocese Observances Led by Apostolic Administrator
In the neighboring Udupi district, the Palm Sunday service at Milagres Cathedral in Kallianpur was led by the Apostolic Administrator of the Udupi Diocese, Reverend Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo. He was assisted by the parish priest, Reverend Fr Gonsalves, and the assistant priest, Reverend Fr Pradeep Cardoza. The cathedral witnessed a large congregation participating in the prayers and procession.
Additional special services were conducted at several other prominent churches across Udupi. These included the Mother of Sorrows Church in Udupi, led by Reverend Fr Charles Menezes; the Health of Our Lady Church in Shirva, where the service was conducted by bishop-designate Reverend Fr Leslie C D'Souza; St Anne Church in Thottam, with rituals performed by Reverend Fr Denis D'Sa; and Sastan Church, where the observance was led by Reverend Fr Sunil D'Silva.
