The historic Rajwada palace in Indore witnessed a significant royal event on March 26, as the Holkar family held a traditional 'Uttaradhikari' or ascension ceremony for Yeshwant Rao Holkar. The ceremony coincided auspiciously with the festival of Ram Navami, adding spiritual significance to the proceedings at the Malhari Martand Deosthan within the palace complex.

Conducted in accordance with the expressed wishes of Maharani Usha Devi of the erstwhile Indore state, the ceremony was led by Rajguru Vijay Rajopadhyay, the spiritual guide of the Holkars. Yeshwant Rao Holkar, adorned in a vibrant red turban and multiple floral garlands, actively participated in sacred rituals and offered prayers throughout the ceremony. Yeshwant's father, Richard Holkar, represents the contemporary generation of the Holkar lineage as the son of Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Holkar II. He has been actively involved in managing the Ahilya Fort at Maheshwar, overseeing its transformation into a notable heritage property that preserves the family's architectural legacy.
His mother, Sally Holkar, originally from the United States, relocated to India during the 1960s and established herself in Maheshwar. She dedicated herself to the revival and preservation of handloom textiles, particularly the traditional Maheshwari weaving techniques.
In 1978, Richard and Sally Holkar played instrumental roles in founding the Rehwa Society, an organization dedicated to revitalizing Maheshwari weaving traditions while creating sustainable employment opportunities, especially for women in the region. Their efforts have been crucial in maintaining the continuity of Maheshwari textile production and preserving aspects of the Holkar family properties in Maheshwar.
Sally Holkar's significant contributions to handloom weaving were nationally recognized with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2025, highlighting the family's ongoing commitment to cultural preservation and community development.

Addressing attendees at his ascension ceremony, Yeshwant Rao Holkar expressed both honor and commitment regarding his new responsibilities. "It is a great honor to be bestowed with this responsibility by my revered aunt, Maharani Usha Devi," he stated.
He further elaborated on his vision for the evolving ceremonial role of the Holkar family in contemporary times: "The ceremonial role of the Holkar family has evolved in the modern era, and accordingly, it will be my most sincere endeavor to carry forward our family's legacy of service in the fields of heritage conservation through the Holkar Cultural Centre, handloom revival through Rehwa Society and WomenWeave, and the charitable and pious works of Punyashlok Devi Ahilyabai Holkar through the Khasgi Trust."
