Bihar Religious Trust Board Announces Major Initiative for Temples and Mutts
The Bihar State Religious Trust Board (BSRTB) has formulated an extensive strategy aimed at the preservation and development of approximately 4,500 mutts and temples throughout the state. This ambitious project is part of a larger religious and cultural revival program, with a particular emphasis on engaging households and young individuals aged 18 to 25.
Transforming Religious Sites into Community Hubs
BSRTB chairman and former MLC Ranbir Nandan highlighted that religious sites will no longer be confined to traditional worship activities. "Religious sites will not be limited to the performance of 'puja-archana', but will also be developed as centres for social and educational activities, as well as for imparting physical training," he stated during a press interaction in Biharsharif on Wednesday.
Comprehensive Review and District-Level Planning
Nandan was in Biharsharif to participate in the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya training mega camp held at the BJP office's Atal Sabhagar. On the sidelines, he revealed that the board is currently assessing the status of both listed and unlisted mutts and temples to create a detailed roadmap for preservation and development. He announced plans for a two-day tour of Nalanda district to evaluate the condition of these sites, which will inform future policies and action plans specific to the district.
Youth-Focused Initiatives and Cultural Revival
To actively involve the youth, the board intends to organize weekly chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa at prominent locations in every district on Tuesdays, targeting participation from those aged 18-25. Additionally, Nandan outlined several concrete measures, including:
- Assisting in the marriage of needy adult girls through dedicated initiatives.
- Organizing cultural programs to foster community engagement.
- Reviving traditional 'akhadas' (wrestling venues), with specific steps planned for the revival of Maniram Akhada and renovation of dharmshalas.
Household Engagement and Religious Practices
The board will also promote the holding of Satyanarayan Bhagwan Katha in households on Poornima and Amavasya, alongside the organization of Durga Puja. This effort aims to integrate religious practices into daily life, enhancing cultural continuity and spiritual awareness across communities.
This initiative represents a significant step towards preserving Bihar's religious heritage while fostering social and educational development through active community participation.
