Hyderabad police have registered an FIR against 15 individuals, including event organisers and temple committee members, for allegedly conducting an animal sacrifice at the Adibatla Beerappa temple. The incident took place in Ibrahimpatnam on April 27, where activists claim around 50 goats and sheep were sacrificed.
Complaint Filed by Animal Activist
According to the complainant, A Goutham, videos uploaded by influencers on social media clearly show animals being sacrificed at the temple. He stated that approximately 50 animals were taken for the ritual and urged authorities to take necessary action against all organisers and committee members. He also noted that several local leaders and politicians were present at the event.
Legal Action Under BNS Section 325
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering any animal useless. This section is invoked in cases of animal cruelty.
Animal Activists' Perspective
Animal activists have long argued that although animal sacrifice is traditionally practiced in many temples across various states, including Telangana, it remains a punishable offence under Indian law. They have been actively filing complaints against such practices, highlighting the cruelty involved. The activists emphasize that the law prohibits unnecessary suffering and killing of animals, and they continue to push for stricter enforcement.
The incident has sparked a debate between religious traditions and animal rights, with authorities now investigating the matter further.
