Bhopal Driver's Heroic Act Prevents Tragedy Before Fatal Cardiac Arrest
A 51-year-old government driver in Bhopal demonstrated remarkable presence of mind during a medical emergency, potentially saving numerous lives before succumbing to a fatal heart attack. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon near the Academy of Administration under the jurisdiction of Chunabhatti Police Station.
Quick Thinking During Medical Crisis
According to police reports, Naeem Khan, 51, began experiencing severe chest discomfort around 2:30 pm while driving his vehicle. Despite his deteriorating condition, Khan managed to steer the car toward the footpath, deliberately avoiding collision with commuters on the heavily trafficked stretch. His actions slowed the vehicle significantly before it veered off, struck an electric pole, and came to a controlled halt along the roadside.
Eyewitness Pankaj Saxena, 58, who owns a nursery opposite the incident site, told TOI: "The driver's prompt action in directing the vehicle onto the footpath likely prevented a major accident. He saved many lives through his quick thinking during what must have been an extremely painful episode."
CCTV Footage Captures Entire Sequence
The entire incident was recorded by surveillance cameras installed outside Saxena's nursery. The nursery owner noticed the car striking the pole on his live feed and immediately rushed outside to investigate. Upon reaching the vehicle, Saxena found the driver unresponsive despite repeated attempts to get his attention.
"When knocking on the windows produced no response, I broke the glass with a stone to gain access to the driver," Saxena explained. He promptly called for an ambulance while a crowd began gathering at the scene.
Medical Response and Investigation
The unconscious driver was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival. Police identified the deceased as Naeem Khan, a resident of Jehangirabad who served as a driver in a government department.
Authorities have sent the body for post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Preliminary investigations suggest Khan suffered a cardiac arrest while operating the vehicle. The police are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this tragic yet heroic incident.
This incident highlights both the sudden nature of medical emergencies and the potential for quick thinking to prevent greater tragedy even in dire personal circumstances.
