Anya Taylor-Joy has officially joined the cast of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'. The actress, known for her roles in major franchises such as 'Dune' and 'Mad Max', is set to venture into Middle-earth for the next live-action installment of the beloved fantasy series.

Directed by Andy Serkis, who will also reprise his iconic role as Gollum, the film features Taylor-Joy as Seren, a Sindar Elf from the Woodland Realm and a trusted operative of King Thranduil, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Seren is described as a skilled warrior expected to play a pivotal role in the story.

Set between the events of 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogies, 'The Hunt for Gollum' marks the first new live-action feature film since 2014. The plot follows Aragorn and Gandalf as they track down Gollum to uncover crucial information about Bilbo Baggins' ring—the One Ring that later threatens all of Middle-earth.

Cast and Characters

Taylor-Joy joins returning franchise stars, including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. New additions to the ensemble include Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider, and Leo Woodall as Halvard.

The film is part of the expanding 'Lord of the Rings' universe. A second film is reportedly in development under the working title 'The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past', written by Stephen Colbert alongside Philippa Boyens and Peter McGee. Meanwhile, the series 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' is slated for an OTT release on November 11, 2026.

Release Date

'The Hunt for Gollum' is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 17, 2027, where it will clash with 'Avengers: Secret Wars', also releasing on the same day.

On the work front, Anya Taylor-Joy will appear in Denis Villeneuve's highly anticipated 'Dune: Part Three', slated for release on December 18.
