Deepesh Deepak Shenoy, a Class X student at TA Pai English Medium High School in Kunjibettu, Udupi, has taken a bold step to address a pressing local issue. As a recipient of the prestigious Hoysala Shaurya Award, he recently wrote a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. In his communication, Shenoy urgently requested intervention to tackle the frequent and unscheduled power outages plaguing his locality.
Student Highlights Critical Need for Uninterrupted Electricity
In his detailed representation, Shenoy specifically urged the Chief Minister to direct immediate inspection and remedial measures. He emphasized the necessity of ensuring a reliable electricity supply, particularly during the crucial morning and daytime hours. The student pointed out that continuous power is absolutely essential for students who are preparing for the upcoming SSLC examinations. These exams are conducted by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) in March and April 2026.
Power Cuts Severely Disrupt Study Routines and Digital Learning
Shenoy explained that the repeated power cuts have caused significant disruptions to daily study schedules. They severely hamper online learning sessions and access to vital digital educational resources. Additionally, these outages prevent students from charging their electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, which are now integral to modern education. This situation has led to increased stress and anxiety among students and their families, who are already under pressure due to academic demands.
Appeal Made for Broader Student Community, Not Personal Gain
Clarifying his intentions, Shenoy stated that his appeal was not driven by a desire for publicity or personal benefit. Instead, he acted in the larger interest of the student community in Udupi and potentially across Karnataka. He expressed a genuine concern that raising such issues might sometimes invite harassment or backlash. However, Shenoy reiterated his strong resolve to continue speaking up in the public interest.
