In a remarkable development for education in Jharkhand, dropout rates in government schools across the state have witnessed a substantial decline following the implementation of the Savitribai Phule Scheme. According to the latest government data, the secondary school dropout rate stood at 25.7% in the 2022–23 academic year. Talking about this significant achievement, the director of the social welfare department, Kiran Passi, emphasized the transformative power of targeted financial support. "The consistent decline in dropout figures indicates that targeted financial support can change educational outcomes for girls," Passi stated. "The scheme emerged as a critical intervention in ensuring continuity of education for adolescent girls, particularly from economically weaker and marginalised communities."

The scheme's effectiveness is evident from the experiences shared by community members and educators. Naresh Pal, a resident of Ranadih village in Garhwa district, highlighted how the financial burden on families has been alleviated. "Many families earlier struggled to manage school-related expenses. Timely support under the scheme reduced that burden and encouraged parents to keep their daughters in school," Pal explained.
Madan Mohan Tiwari, a teacher at the Chotanagpur Raj +2 High School in Ratu, observed positive changes in classroom dynamics. "Girls are more regular in classes now, and parents show greater confidence about continuing their daughters' education," Tiwari noted. "The financial assistance complemented other efforts to improve learning outcomes and gender equity in schools."
Student Perspectives and Future Aspirations
Komal Kumari, a Class 12 pass-out from the Chhotanagpur Raj +2 High School in Ratu who is now pursuing BSc in mathematics, shared her personal experience. "My parents were worried about my expenses for education, but the scheme helped them. Now, they want me to study further," Kumari revealed. "The assistance reassured the family that educating is both possible and worthwhile."
Kumari also offered valuable insights for the scheme's future implementation. "Continuous monitoring and timely disbursement under the scheme will further consolidate the gains achieved in reducing school dropout rates across the state," she suggested, highlighting the importance of efficient administration.
Comprehensive Approach to Girl Child Empowerment
The Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana represents a flagship initiative of the Jharkhand government aimed at promoting education, empowerment, and overall well-being of adolescent girls. By addressing financial barriers that often lead to school dropouts, the scheme takes a comprehensive approach to girl child development.
