A group of enthusiastic school students in Ranchi received an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how weather forecasting works during a special program previewing the upcoming India International Science Festival 2025. The event, held at the Meteorological Centre in Hinoo, allowed young minds to witness firsthand the sophisticated operations of weather data collection and analysis.
Hands-On Science Experience
The visiting students observed various meteorological activities and instruments, including the Surface Observatory, Automatic Weather Station, and Upper Air Observation System. According to an official statement from the MeT office, the young visitors displayed remarkable enthusiasm and engagement throughout the program. They particularly appreciated how the experience helped bridge the gap between theoretical classroom science and practical real-world applications.
Vaibhav Verma, a Class 9B student, described the visit as "a great learning experience" that matched his strong interest in scientific subjects. His schoolmate Aditya Kumar echoed similar sentiments, stating, "I got a lot of information on how weather reports are prepared." The students' positive feedback highlighted the program's success in making complex scientific concepts accessible and exciting.
Inspiring Future Scientists
The curtain raiser event for IISF 2025 brought together approximately 70 participants, including 35 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hinoo, along with their teachers, Meteorological Centre staff, and distinguished guests. Center head Baburaj PP emphasized that the primary objective was to introduce the new generation to IISF 2025 and highlight opportunities for national-level participation in scientific activities.
Baburaj stressed the importance of science in contemporary society and encouraged children to develop greater interest in scientific subjects, recognizing their crucial role in daily life. The chief guest, Anil Kumar Kashyap, Director of Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, elaborated on science's significance to the assembled students and visitors, sharing valuable insights about embracing scientific thinking.
National Science Vision
The event was organized under the national theme "Vigyan se Samrudhi for Aatmnirbhar Bharat", reflecting India's vision of scientific self-reliance. Scientist Abhishek Anand from the MeT office educated students through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation about IISF activities, while the program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Upendra Sirivastwa.
The event successfully achieved its goals of inspiring young students and raising awareness about both IISF 2025 and the country's scientific aspirations. Importantly, the organizers highlighted that students across India will have opportunities to participate in various IISF programs online, ensuring wider accessibility to the science festival's offerings.
