MCD Unveils 'MCD Shri' Schools Initiative with Two Schools Per Zone in Initial Phase
In a significant move to enhance educational standards, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced the launch of 'MCD Shri' schools, modeled after the Central government's 'PM Shri' schools and the Delhi government's 'CM Shri' schools. This initiative aims to create a network of institutions dedicated to academic excellence and holistic development.
Focus on Merit and Student Nurturing
Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh revealed that the first phase will see two 'MCD Shri' schools established in each MCD zone. These schools will prioritize admissions for meritorious students, with a strong emphasis on identifying and nurturing individual talents. Singh emphasized that these institutions are designed to prepare students for higher studies while fostering their unique abilities.
"Education, values, and discipline together form the backbone of society," Singh stated, highlighting the role of teachers as nation-builders who shape young minds and instill essential values.
Special Programs for Outstanding Students
Yogesh Verma, Chairman of the MCD Education Committee, outlined specific measures to recognize and support high-achieving students. Each year, 100 exceptional students from Class five will be selected based on their performance in academics, sports, or co-curricular activities. Their names and achievements will be published on the Corporation's website to facilitate admission opportunities in other schools.
Verma noted that beyond academics, the MCD is committed to providing comprehensive support, including mid-day meals, uniforms, and other basic facilities, ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students.
Announcement at Republic Day Ceremony
The announcement was made during a Republic Day flag hoisting ceremony at the MCD Primary School in Ashok Vihar Phase 1. Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh unfurled the national flag at the event, which was presided over by area councillor and Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma. This symbolic launch underscores the civic body's dedication to educational reform and community engagement.
The 'MCD Shri' schools initiative represents a strategic step towards improving educational outcomes in Delhi, aligning with broader national and state-level efforts to elevate school education through merit-based and value-driven approaches.
