In a significant push to enhance opportunities for government school students, Mandya's Deputy Commissioner Kumara has issued a clear directive to education officials and teachers. He has called for systematic preparatory training specifically for Class 5 pupils to help them successfully crack the competitive Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance examination.
Boosting Registrations and Addressing Infrastructure
The instructions were delivered during the Navodaya Vidyalaya Management Committee meeting held at the DC's office on Thursday. While appreciating the academic focus and extracurricular activities at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Shivaragudda, the DC turned his attention to pressing practical issues.
He urged officials to ramp up efforts to increase the registration of government school students for the entrance tests. The Shivaragudda campus, spread over 30 acres, currently hosts 522 students supported by a staff of 51 teaching and non-teaching members.
Immediate Safety and Maintenance Directives
Expressing concerns over safety and upkeep, Deputy Commissioner Kumara issued specific on-the-spot orders. He directed the replacement of old electric poles on the school premises. To combat mosquito-borne diseases, he instructed officials to clear the overgrown vegetation along the Cauvery canal adjoining the campus.
Further, he mandated the repair of the damaged drainage system and the removal of dried trees that are leaning dangerously close to the school buildings, posing a potential risk to students and staff.
Holistic Student Support and Teacher's Role Emphasized
Kumara noted that while the number of students appearing for the Navodaya entrance test is rising steadily in Mandya district, more concerted effort is needed to ensure higher participation from the government school sector.
Going beyond academics, he instructed school authorities to proactively identify students who are academically weak or experiencing mental stress. For such children, he emphasized the need to arrange professional counselling support.
Highlighting the pivotal role of educators, the DC stated that teachers are responsible for instilling values, culture, and discipline in students. He affirmed that they hold the power to guide young minds towards positive thinking and a brighter future. The meeting was attended by Navodaya Vidyalaya Principal Mohan Kumar.
