The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled a major modernization initiative, confirming the introduction of On-Screen Marking (OSM) for the evaluation of Class 12 answer books beginning with the 2026 board examinations. In an official communication dispatched to all affiliated schools, CBSE clarified that the new digital evaluation system will be rolled out specifically for Class 12 answer books from the 2026 exams onward. For the same year, the evaluation of Class 10 answer books will continue to follow the traditional physical mode, ensuring a measured and stable transition.
The Board, which conducts annual examinations for nearly 44 lakh students across India and 26 other countries, stated that the move to OSM is a cornerstone of its ongoing efforts to modernize examination protocols and drastically improve the turnaround time for result declarations.
