Ranchi NGO Launches Scholarship Mentorship for SC/ST Students

A social organisation based in Ranchi has launched a special mentorship initiative aimed at empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds. The programme was unveiled on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of the iconic former Indian hockey captain and parliamentarian, Jaipal Singh Munda.

Bridging the Gap in Higher Education Access

Officials from The Association for PARIVARTAN of Nation (APNA) stated that this initiative is designed to help students from economically weaker sections tap into opportunities for higher studies abroad. The programme specifically targets students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC) communities who are aiming to secure scholarships for the 2026-27 academic session.

Under this scheme, chosen candidates will benefit from personalised, one-on-one guidance from mentors who themselves have studied overseas on scholarships. The comprehensive support package includes:

  • Assistance with drafting Statements of Purpose (SOP) and Letters of Recommendation (LOR).
  • Guidance on navigating the complex scholarship application process.
  • Preparation for crucial interviews.
  • Pre-departure orientation sessions.
  • Limited post-arrival support for academic and cultural adjustment.

The programme will also feature group workshops to foster peer learning.

Honouring a Legacy of Leadership and Excellence

APNA secretary Md Faizan explained the inspiration behind the programme. He highlighted that Jaipal Singh Munda was not only a sports legend but also a distinguished academic and leader. The JSM Mentorship Programme seeks to carry forward his enduring legacy of empowering marginalised sections of society.

"We aim to mentor at least 25 students annually and reach over 100 aspirants with vital scholarship-related information," Faizan said. The long-term vision is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of mentorship that continues to uplift students for years to come.

Application Details and Programme Scope

The window for applications is now open and will remain so until January 31. The mentorship programme itself is scheduled to run until November of this year.

Faizan clarified the scope of the initiative, noting, "The programme offers one-on-one mentorship covering application support, workshops, and four months of post-arrival cultural adjustment. It is crucial to note that the programme is completely free of cost but does not provide direct financial assistance or guarantee admissions."

This structured effort by the Ranchi-based outfit represents a significant step towards levelling the playing field in international education, providing crucial guidance where it is needed most.
