In a significant push to ignite young minds in science and technology, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has officially launched the blueprint for the South India Rocketry Challenge-2K26. This major student-focused initiative marks a first for the state and aims to cultivate the next generation of aerospace innovators.
A Launchpad for Young Scientists
The grand unveiling of the event's blueprint was attended by key dignitaries including Investments and Infrastructure Minister BC Janardhan Reddy, Special Chief Secretary MT Krishnababu, and AP Science City CEO Kesineni Venkateswarlu. The innovative three-day event is scheduled to be held from January 22 to 24, 2026, at Vignan University in Guntur district.
Organised under the aegis of AP Science City, the challenge has a clear mission: to foster scientific temper, hands-on learning, and innovation among students. Minister Janardhan Reddy emphasized that the initiative is designed to spark interest in space and aerospace technologies among Andhra Pradesh's youth and students from other southern states, while also identifying and nurturing talent from an early age.
Competition Structure and Prizes
The South India Rocketry Challenge-2K26 will feature competitive events tailored for two distinct academic levels:
- Hydro Rocketry competitions for school students.
- Chemical Rocketry events for students from higher education institutions.
To ensure the highest standards of safety and scientific rigor, the competitions will be conducted under the technical guidance of ISRO-recognised organisations Muskaan Educom Foundation and Space Kidz India.
AP Science City CEO Kesineni Venkateswarlu announced attractive rewards for the winners, including cash prizes of up to ₹1.5 lakh. Additionally, winners will receive certificates, free internships, and live satellite rocket model kits, providing a tangible connection to advanced aerospace concepts.
Building a Future in STEM
The programme is more than just a competition; it is a platform for practical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) exposure. Participants are expected to gain invaluable hands-on experience and insights into potential career paths in the rapidly growing space and aerospace sectors.
The event has garnered strong institutional support, with sponsors including AP Samagra Shiksha and the AP Higher Education Department. This collaborative effort underscores the state government's commitment to positioning Andhra Pradesh as a hub for scientific education and innovation, directly investing in the skill development of its student community.
