In a significant move to boost international partnerships in the organic sector, Tripura's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath participated in the prestigious Middle East Natural & Organic Products Expo (MENOPE) in Dubai this week.
Tripura's Organic Showcase at Global Platform
The event, which commenced on Monday at the Dubai World Trade Centre, served as a global platform where Tripura proudly displayed its diverse range of organic products. The state's exhibition featured several flagship organic products that captured widespread attention from international participants for their exceptional quality and unique characteristics.
Among the highlighted products were the Geographical Indication (GI) tagged queen pineapple, aromatic rice varieties including Kalikhasa and Harinarayan, bird's eye chilli, the distinctively scented gandharaj lemon, white sesame, and nutritious foxtail millet. These indigenous products received overwhelming appreciation from global visitors for their distinctive flavors and significant export potential.
International Interest and Market Opportunities
Minister Nath reported substantial interest from international buyers, importers, and global retail chains representing various regions including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Europe, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. These stakeholders expressed strong enthusiasm for sourcing Tripura's organic products and establishing long-term business partnerships with the northeastern state.
"The response has been tremendously encouraging," stated Minister Nath. "International buyers recognized the unique quality and authenticity of our organic products, opening doors for significant export opportunities that will benefit our farming community."
Tripura's Organic Farming Transformation
The minister highlighted Tripura's remarkable journey in organic agriculture, revealing that the state currently has 26,400 hectares of land under certified organic farming. This sustainable agricultural movement involves more than 26,800 farmers who have successfully transitioned from conventional farming methods to environmentally friendly organic practices.
"Tripura has established itself as one of India's most progressive states in organic farming," Minister Nath emphasized. "This strategic shift from conventional to sustainable farming practices has not only empowered our agricultural community but has also significantly strengthened our value chains, creating new economic opportunities for rural families."
The participation in MENOPE represents a crucial step in Tripura's ongoing efforts to position itself as a leading organic products exporter while strengthening bilateral cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in the agricultural sector.
