In a significant move, the Tamil Nadu government has declared that sustainability objectives and achieving carbon neutrality are now central to its policy-making framework. This announcement was made by District Collector K J Praveen Kumar during the inauguration of the first-ever CII Madurai zone's 'Pudhu Madurai Green MFG X Conference 2026' held on Saturday.
Envisioning a Future-Ready Industrial Ecosystem
The conference, themed 'Powering the Next Leap in Sustainable Industrial Growth', served as a major convergence point for industry stalwarts, manufacturers, and experts in the sustainability field. The core ambition was to collaboratively design a cluster-based, low-carbon industrial ecosystem positioned for the future, centered around Madurai.
R Sridharan, head of CII Madurai zone, emphasized the collective effort, stating that innovators were brought together to shape this vision. A key outcome of the deliberations is the proposed development of a new industrial hub within a 30 to 60-kilometer radius of Madurai.

Ashwin Desai, chairman of CII Madurai zone, highlighted that the discussions were structured around critical areas essential for sustainable development. These included sustainable energy, green manufacturing, artificial intelligence, smart urban systems, alternative fuels, electric mobility, water conservation, waste management, and energy efficiency.
Further reinforcing the long-term commitment, S Rajamohan, past chairman of CII Madurai zone and founder of Enviro Care India, spoke on the vital need to adopt energy and water conservation practices. He linked these actions directly to the successful execution of the overarching 'Pudhu Madurai Vision Document 2035'.
