The tragedy occurred at approximately 9:40 AM in the sponge iron manufacturing unit of an industrial plant operated by Real Ispat and Power Ltd. According to District Collector Deepak Soni, the leak originated from the fifth floor of the plant, where fly ash—a byproduct of industrial processes—escaped at temperatures exceeding 500°C.

Eleven construction labourers were present at the site when the leak happened. The intense heat and debris caused fatal injuries to six workers, while five others sustained critical burns and other trauma. Preliminary reports indicate that the victims succumbed to a combination of heat injury, severe burns, and suffocation due to the extreme conditions.

Victim Profiles and Immediate Response

Most of the deceased and injured are migrant workers from Bihar, with some also hailing from Jharkhand. This highlights the broader issue of migrant labour safety in India's industrial sectors. The injured workers were swiftly transported to medical facilities for urgent care.
