The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to establish a permanent state-level committee to scientifically monitor shrimp feed input costs and ensure transparency in pricing, responding to concerns raised by aqua farmers.
Government Approves New Committee
Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu announced that the government has approved the formation of the AP Shrimp Feed Ingredients Price Monitoring Committee (APSFIPMC). This committee aims to regulate feed prices, ensure transparency, and maintain quality standards in the aquaculture sector.
Composition of the Committee
The committee will include representatives from several key organizations:
- Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA)
- Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA)
- Fisheries University
- Shrimp feed manufacturers
- Aquaculture farmers’ associations
- APSADA members
- Feed dealers’ associations
- Fisheries department technical experts
- RTGS representatives
The fisheries commissioner will nominate three representatives from aquaculture farmers and two APSADA directors as members. The government is also considering appointing a co-vice chairman from the state government side to ensure effective policy guidance and coordination. The Principal of the State Institute of Fisheries Technology (SIFT), Kakinada, will serve as the convener of the committee.
