Belagavi: Stepping up its crackdown on narcotics, the city police on Wednesday apprehended four individuals involved in ganja peddling in the Tarihal-Halaga villages along the national highway. The Hirebagewadi police conducted a targeted raid and seized 2.7 kilograms of ganja along with other materials, collectively valued at Rs 2.9 lakh.
Arrested Individuals Identified
The arrested persons have been identified as Omkar Yallappa Kolekar and Nagendra Shivaji Ragi Patil from Tarihal, and Pramod Dharmendra Kasbekar and Gajanan Sachin Patil from Uchagavi. All four are currently in police custody and are being interrogated.
Details of the Seizure
Police Inspector Manjunath Nayak of the CCB division led the operation. The team recovered 2.7 kg of ganja worth over Rs 1.3 lakh, two mobile phones valued at Rs 5,000 and Rs 55,000, and a motorbike worth Rs 1 lakh from the accused. In total, assets worth Rs 2.9 lakh were seized during the raid.
The police have intensified surveillance across the city to curb the production and sale of narcotics. Further investigation into the network is under way, with authorities probing the source of the drugs and potential links to larger trafficking rings.
This operation is part of a broader initiative by the Belagavi police to combat drug-related crimes in the region. The public has been urged to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics to the local authorities.
