Official statistics reveal that approximately 92,000 initial asylum decisions were made in 2023, representing one of the highest annual totals in over two decades. The government has committed to clearing what it terms the 'legacy backlog' of applications submitted before June 2022, with recent data indicating significant progress toward this target.
Another critical component focuses on deterring illegal migration through the controversial UK-Rwanda Partnership.
