Tragic Death of Sonipat Youth in Netherlands Leaves Family in Despair

A 21-year-old man from Mai Majri village in Sonipat district, Haryana, has died in a tragic accident in the Netherlands, leaving his impoverished family devastated and facing a severe financial crisis as they attempt to repatriate his body to India.

Journey Abroad Ends in Tragedy

According to grieving family members, Sagar Rana traveled to France on a tourist visa on November 26, 2024, with hopes of finding employment opportunities abroad. After struggling to secure work in France, he moved to the Netherlands following advice from a friend who promised job prospects there.

Sagar eventually found employment in the Netherlands under a man known only as "Surya." In a fateful turn of events, he reportedly accompanied a friend to cut down a tree. Since his friend lacked experience with the task, Sagar took it upon himself to climb the tree.

The Fatal Accident

Though Sagar successfully cut the tree, tragedy struck as he attempted to climb down. He slipped during his descent and fell, striking his head on a stone with tremendous force. The impact caused severe head injuries that would prove fatal.

He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he remained admitted from March 21 to March 30. Medical professionals conducted two emergency head surgeries in a desperate attempt to save his life, but Sagar ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Family's Anguish and Communication Breakdown

Sagar's younger brother revealed that their last conversation occurred on March 19. "We used to talk every evening. After that, there was no response. Later, we were informed about the accident," he said, highlighting the suddenness of the tragedy.

The family alleges that all critical information about Sagar's condition and death was conveyed through a locally appointed nominee, with no direct communication established with hospital authorities. Compounding their distress, Sagar's employer "Surya" allegedly vacated his residence and disappeared following the accident, with his phone remaining switched off ever since.

Financial Crisis and Repatriation Struggle

Sagar's uncle, Anil Bangar, explained that while an application has been submitted to the Indian embassy, the repatriation process has stalled completely due to financial constraints. The family faces an overwhelming burden of loans totaling ₹20–25 lakh that were taken specifically to fund Sagar's journey abroad.

The family has made desperate appeals to government authorities and non-governmental organizations for assistance. Sagar's father, a former truck driver, currently has no stable income source, making their financial situation particularly dire.

For this grieving family, bringing Sagar home for his final rites remains their sole wish amidst overwhelming tragedy and financial hardship.
