Dr Yvan J-F. Hutin, the World Health Organization's Country Representative to India, formally presented his credentials to Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, on Friday. The ceremony took place in New Delhi.
Sibi George extended his best wishes to Dr Hutin for a successful tenure in India. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed the event via a post on X, stating, "Secretary (West) Sibi George received credentials from Dr Yvan J.-F. Hutin as the Country Representative of the World Health Organization to India. Secretary (West) wished him a successful tenure in India."
Dr Hutin's Background and Expertise
Dr Hutin assumed the role of WHO Representative to India in May 2026. Prior to this appointment, he served as the head of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Department at WHO Headquarters, where he led global efforts to address the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance.
With over three decades of experience in global public health, Dr Hutin brings a wealth of knowledge in clinical medicine, epidemiology, infectious diseases, and health leadership. He holds a Doctor of Medicine degree in Hepato-Gastroenterology from France and a Master's degree in Clinical Tropical Medicine from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Additionally, he served with the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and earned a PhD from the Swiss Tropical Institute.
Extensive International Experience
Throughout his career, Dr Hutin has worked across multiple regions, including Africa, Europe, and Asia. His assignments have taken him to countries such as Burkina Faso and Uganda, as well as the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control in Sweden. Over more than two decades with WHO at the country, regional, and headquarters levels, he has made significant contributions to a wide array of global health initiatives.
