The Uttar Pradesh government has officially shifted the public holiday announced for Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) from May 27 to May 28. This decision follows the confirmation based on moon sighting that the festival will be celebrated across the state on Thursday, May 28.
Revised Holiday Schedule
With the revised order coming into effect, all government offices, educational institutions, and state-controlled establishments that were earlier scheduled to remain closed on Wednesday, May 27, will now function normally. Instead, the holiday will be observed on Thursday, May 28.
Official Notification
The decision was announced through an official notification issued by the General Administration Department of the state government. According to the notification, the holiday for Eid-ul-Azha had initially been listed for May 27 in the annual public holiday calendar issued in November 2025. The date was marked as 'subject to change depending on the sighting of the moon.'
After confirmation that Bakrid would be observed on May 28 in Uttar Pradesh, the government formally amended the earlier order and declared Thursday as the public holiday.
