NSCN Urges Centre to Declare Kuki Militants Terrorists

Dimapur: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah), or NSCN (IM), on Thursday urged the central government to immediately declare Kuki militant groups and their frontal village volunteers as outlaws and terrorist organisations. This demand follows the recovery of six Naga bodies in Manipur's Kangpokpi district.

NSCN Condemns Killings

In a strongly worded statement, the NSCN unequivocally condemned the "barbaric killing" and "grotesque mutilation" of the bodies by Kuki groups. The organisation slammed the "heinous atrocities" as "blatant crimes against humanity and a savage violation of human dignity."

Stating that such violations have no place in a civilised society, the NSCN declared that it will leave no stone unturned until those responsible for the "savage act" are brought to justice.

"Even in times of conflict, universal moral norms demand absolute respect for the deceased. The deliberate desecration of human bodies serves no purpose other than to spread terror, weaponise fear, and inflict deep psychological trauma on grieving families and communities," the NSCN said.

Call for Action

The statement emphasised that the deliberate targeting of civilians, use of extreme violence to terrorise the public, and desecration of the dead constitute clear acts of terrorism by any global standard. It stressed that groups committing such depraved acts must be stripped of all political legitimacy. The NSCN warned that failure to crush these organisations will only embolden them to commit further atrocities and destroy any chance for justice and peace.

Furthermore, the NSCN said it is imperative that the Centre acts swiftly and decisively to target these "gangs."

Criticism of Security Forces

The NSCN also criticised security forces for "manhandling Naga womenfolk like ragdolls for exercising their democratic right to protest, assaulting Naga student activists, and forcibly disbanding Naga village guards." The statement accused them of facilitating the brutal killing.

The NSCN questioned how such actions can be reconciled with the principles of justice, equality, and protection, which the Centre is constitutionally bound to uphold.
