NIT Student's Body Found After 4-Day Search in Alaknanda

The body of a 21-year-old student from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, who drowned in the Alaknanda river, was recovered on Thursday following an extensive four-day search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), officials confirmed.

Incident Details

Anand Soham, a sixth-semester student originally from Andhra Pradesh, went missing on April 26 while bathing near NIT Ghat in Srinagar. The local police reported the incident to the SDRF at approximately 4:20 pm on the same day, prompting an immediate search effort.

Search Operation Challenges

The SDRF teams faced challenging river conditions during the operation. Despite the difficulties, search operations continued over several days until the body was recovered. An SDRF official stated, "Despite difficult river conditions, teams carried out search operations over several days. The body has been handed over to police for further procedures."
