A Bangladeshi man who was caught in a tense standoff between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) returned to his homeland on Thursday morning. He had spent the night in no-man's land along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
Identity of the Individual
The individual has been identified as Sati Rajbanshi, son of Baghbatta from Chalna village, located under Narayanpur post office and Gudagari Police Station in Bangladesh's Rajshahi district.
Incident Details
Rajbanshi was allegedly attempting to illegally cross into Indian territory when he was intercepted by the BSF. This incident led to heightened tensions along the border at Nandirchar in Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district, near Mahendraganj. Videos of the altercation widely circulated on social media.
Altercation Between Forces
The footage showed BGB personnel from Bangladesh's Jamalpur and BSF personnel on the Indian side engaged in a heated altercation over the nationality and identity of the individual. The standoff continued for hours.
Resolution Through Flag Meetings
After several flag meetings between the two forces, authorities reached a resolution, allowing the Bangladeshi national to return to his homeland. He was handed over to the BGB.
