Bengaluru commuters faced disruptions as a technical glitch hit the recharge system for metro mobility cards. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) acknowledged the issue, describing it as 'temporary' and assuring passengers that efforts were underway to restore normal service at the earliest.
Impact on Passengers
Many passengers were unable to recharge their mobility cards, leading to inconvenience at stations. Some had to rely on alternative payment methods or purchase single-journey tokens instead. The glitch primarily affected digital recharges, including those made through mobile apps and online portals.
BMRCL Response
In a statement, BMRCL officials said the glitch was identified late in the evening and technical teams were immediately deployed to resolve it. 'We understand the inconvenience caused and are working diligently to fix the problem. Passengers are advised to use other available payment options until the system is fully restored,' a spokesperson said.
Restoration Efforts
The corporation did not specify a timeline for complete restoration but assured that updates would be provided through official channels. Meanwhile, station staff were instructed to assist passengers and facilitate smooth travel.
This is not the first time BMRCL has faced technical issues; previous glitches have also caused temporary disruptions. The metro network, which serves millions daily, relies heavily on digital systems for ticketing and recharges.
