Two Sarus Cranes Die After Hitting High-Tension Wire in Etawah

Kanpur: Two sarus cranes, the state bird of Uttar Pradesh, died after coming into contact with a high-tension power line, while another was seriously injured in the Bharthana police station area of Etawah.

Incident Details

According to reports, on Friday, farmers were transplanting paddy seedlings in their fields near the Nagla Mulu canal track in the Bharthana police station area when a flock of sarus cranes passed nearby. Suddenly, three sarus cranes touched the high-tension power line overhead. Two of them died instantly from the electric shock, while a third was seriously injured and flew away.

The farmers informed the forest department about the incident. Upon receiving the information, a forest department team reached the spot and took custody of the dead birds.

Forest Department Response

Forest caretaker Mahavir Yadav said that the last rites of both state birds were performed respectfully with proper rituals. An attempt was made to catch the injured sarus crane, but it escaped from the team’s grasp.
