Tamil Nadu Heavy Rainfall Alert: IMD Issues Multiple Warnings

The India Meteorological Department has issued multiple weather alerts for Tamil Nadu as heavy rainfall continues to lash several parts of the state. A low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal combined with ongoing cyclonic activity has created volatile weather conditions across the region.

IMD Weather Forecast and District-wise Alerts

According to the latest IMD bulletin released on November 19, 2025, light to moderate rainfall is expected at several places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The weather department has specifically warned about thunderstorms and lightning occurring at one or two locations.

Heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places in Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai districts on both Wednesday and Thursday. The forecast indicates that thunderstorm activity is also likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema regions.

Weekend Weather Outlook and Extended Forecast

The situation is expected to intensify from Friday onwards, with heavy rain likely across Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu, Nagapattinam, and the Puducherry/Karaikal regions.

Saturday and Sunday are predicted to bring widespread heavy rainfall across numerous districts including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.

Current Situation and Precautionary Measures

Chennai is already experiencing significant disruptions due to the ongoing rainfall. The city has been grappling with waterlogging, traffic congestion, and school closures earlier this week. Conditions are expected to worsen over the weekend with heavier rainfall spells forecasted.

While no fresh announcements have been made regarding school closures for Wednesday, parents have been advised to maintain communication with school authorities for any updates. The repeated spells of heavy rainfall have prompted authorities to urge residents to exercise extreme caution.

Residents are specifically advised to avoid waterlogged areas and stay updated with local weather advisories. The IMD continues to monitor the developing weather system closely and will issue further updates as conditions evolve.
