Active western disturbances swept across Rajasthan on Thursday, kicking up significant dust storms and creating extensive cloud cover in the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a wider spell of rain starting from Friday, affecting multiple regions across the state.
Met Office Predicts Widespread Showers and Possible Hailstorms
The Met Office indicated that many places across several divisions, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, and Jodhpur, are likely to receive mild to moderate showers in the coming days. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some areas, adding to the weather variability. Karauli remained the coldest location in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 5.8°C, as per the latest Met Office report.
Temperature Variations and Afternoon Weather Shifts
Weather conditions shifted notably in the afternoon, with mild showers reported in Sikar and Jaisalmer districts. Jaipur experienced a comparatively warmer start to the day, with a minimum temperature of 12.6°C, which is nearly 3.8 degrees above the normal range for this time of year. The city later logged a maximum temperature of 25.1°C. Cloudy conditions set in around 4 pm, leading to a partially cloudy sky forecast for Friday, along with the possibility of thundershowers. With the anticipated rainfall, temperatures could dip further in and around Jaipur.
Extended Impact of Western Disturbances Until January 31
The Met Office stated that the spell of western disturbances is likely to continue until January 31. An officer from the agriculture department highlighted the significance of this rainfall, noting, "This is the time when farmers wait for this kind of rainfall, which is popularly known as Mavath. It is beneficial for the crops." This period is crucial for agricultural activities in the region.

Following Karauli, other areas recorded varying minimum temperatures: Alwar at 6.0°C, Vanasthali at 7.9°C, Fatehpur at 8.1°C, Sriganganagar at 8.2°C, Mount Abu at 9.0°C, Churu at 10.4°C, Jaisalmer at 11.7°C, Jodhpur at 12.9°C, and Barmer at 13.4°C. These readings reflect the diverse weather patterns across Rajasthan.

In its detailed forecast, the Met Office reiterated that mild to moderate showers are likely in some places within the Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Ajmer divisions. Residents and farmers are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and prepare for potential changes in conditions.
