Rajasthan Thunderstorms Cause Death, Damage; Relief from Heat

Jaipur: Thunderstorms, rain, and hail swept across several parts of Rajasthan on Monday, bringing relief from intense heat but causing damage, disruption, and a death in Rajsamand district. A 16-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning in Bardaya village under Kumbhalgarh subdivision. The incident occurred in the afternoon when the teenager was standing under a tree amid sudden weather changes. Around 16 goats grazing nearby were also killed in the strike.

Districts Affected

The weather system impacted districts including Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota, Bhilwara, Jhalawar, Rajsamand, and Chittorgarh, with temperatures dropping by around 7°C on average across the state. In Bhilwara’s Asind, strong winds disrupted a wedding function, blowing away tents and triggering panic among guests. In Jhalawar’s Aklera, a brief spell of rain and hail in the evening affected normal life, while hailstorms were also reported in Jodhpur and Ajmer, raising concerns over crop damage.

Temperature Drop

The spell, driven by active western disturbances, has effectively ended heatwave conditions, though Jaisalmer remained the hottest at 42.3°C. Other cities recorded below-normal temperatures, including Ajmer (36.5°C), Bhilwara (37°C), and Kota (38.3°C). Jaipur also saw a sharp dip, with uprooted trees disrupting traffic and power outages reported in parts of the city.
