The regional office of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) in Jharsuguda has taken decisive action by sealing an industrial explosives manufacturing unit within the district. This enforcement measure was executed on Friday following a series of public complaints and alleged repeated violations of established pollution control regulations.
Official Closure Action and Compliance Failure
The closure operation was conducted by officials from the Regional Pollution Control Board in Jharsuguda, with the presence and support of the Jharsuguda tehsildar. According to detailed statements from the authorities, this stringent decision was reached after receiving multiple complaints from the local community and documenting persistent non-compliance by the industrial unit with mandated environmental and pollution control protocols.
Officials from the regional office emphasized that the unit had allegedly failed to meet required environmental standards despite receiving prior instructions and warnings. This ongoing disregard for regulations compelled the board to issue formal closure directions under the applicable environmental laws, highlighting a zero-tolerance approach towards violations.

Jharsuguda tehsildar Sadakar Kumbhar provided specific insights into the case, stating, "The industry was not adhering to pollution norms despite repeated complaints from villagers and directions issued by OSPCB to comply with the required standards. However, the company failed to meet these compliance requirements and continued operating the plant. In this regard, as per the closure order issued by the district administration, we have sealed the industry until the necessary compliance is met."
Response from the Industrial Unit
In contrast, Vijay Kumar Dubey, the manager of the firm, offered a different perspective, asserting, "We are already working on it and very shortly the compliance will be done." This statement suggests that the unit is actively addressing the compliance issues, though the closure remains in effect until all environmental standards are fully met as verified by the authorities.
