Kolkata's Temperature Seesaw Continues as Cold Feeling Holds Strong

Kolkata witnessed another day of temperature fluctuations on Tuesday. The city's day temperature dipped slightly, while the night temperature showed a rise. Despite these changes, both the maximum and minimum temperatures stayed below the normal mark. This kept the cold feeling firmly in place across the city.

Met Office Predicts Further Changes in Night Temperature

The Met office has issued a forecast for the coming days. They predict a slight dip in the night temperature by Wednesday. Meanwhile, the day temperature is expected to hover around the same level as Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the minimum temperature recorded was 13.3 degrees Celsius. This was merely 0.5 degrees below the normal mark. The Met office expects this to drop further. It may hover around 12 degrees by Wednesday and remain there for the next few days.

Clear Skies Expected with Some Morning Fog

Apart from early mornings, the sky is likely to be clear of fog for the rest of the day. The Met office noted that the intense chill which wrapped Kolkata under its spell for over a week in early January may be missing now. However, the city will continue to experience the cold feeling for the time being.

Recalling the Recent Cold Spell and Record Lows

The minimum temperature dipped to a record low in 13 years for January on January 6. On that day, it plummeted to 10.2 degrees Celsius in Kolkata. A strong north-westerly wind and low cloud hanging over Kolkata's sky fueled this drop. The maximum temperature also plunged to the season's lowest of 18 degrees on the same day. This was a whopping 6.7 notches below the normal mark.

A gradual rise began from the next day. However, the minimum temperature remained well below the normal mark. It showed an abrupt jump to 15 degrees on Sunday, breaching the normal mark after 17 days. In the past two days, it has dipped below the normal mark once again.
