The state forest, environment and climate change department is set to commence the World Environment Day celebrations with a cleanliness drive at the Biodiversity Park in Ranchi on Tuesday. Sanjeev Kumar, the principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) and head of forest forces, announced that the department will collaborate with the public, students, and environmental experts to organize activities aimed at generating awareness about environmental protection.
Bird Watching and Cleanliness Drive
To sensitize people about environmental diversity, the department has planned a bird watching session and a cleanliness drive at Namkum's Horap forest on Tuesday. Participants will be guided by forest officials during the bird-watching tour, followed by a cleanliness drive.
Cyclothon and Walkathon
On Wednesday, the department will organize a cyclothon and a walkathon to spread the message of environmental protection. The cyclothon will commence from the forest headquarters and proceed to Oxygen Park in Morhabadi, while the walkathon will start from the headquarters and end at Hinoo Chowk.
Painting Competition
A painting competition for school students will be held at the forest headquarters the following day. The week-long observance will conclude on Friday with a state-wide programme.
Tree Plantation Target
PCCF Kumar further stated that the forest department has set a target of planting approximately 1.5 crore saplings across the state in the current financial year. He highlighted that since its formation in 2000, Jharkhand's forest cover has been steadily increasing, with an addition of over one lakh hectares in the past 25 years. The department is focused on further enhancing the state's green cover.
