IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms and Rain in Haryana
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across various parts of Haryana over the coming days. This weather activity is attributed to an approaching western disturbance that is set to impact the region significantly.
Unstable Weather Conditions Forecast Through Monday
The weather agency has flagged unstable conditions expected between Thursday and Monday, with wind speeds gusting up to 40 kilometers per hour. On certain days, these winds are predicted to intensify further, reaching between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour. The rainfall activity is anticipated to begin in isolated pockets initially, become more scattered around peak days, and then gradually taper off as the system moves away.
Recent Temperature Trends and Heat Build-Up
Following a brief spell of rain last week caused by a previous western disturbance, temperatures had once again started climbing across the state. On Wednesday, Gurgaon recorded the highest maximum temperature in Haryana at 35 degrees Celsius, which was 4.7 degrees above the normal range for this time of year. The minimum temperature settled at 16.8 degrees Celsius.
The average maximum temperature rose by approximately 1.7 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day, indicating a steady accumulation of heat across the state. This heat build-up, combined with the incoming western disturbances, creates conditions conducive to short-duration storm activity.
Expert Forecast: Series of Western Disturbances Until Mid-April
Independent weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has provided detailed insights into the upcoming weather patterns. According to his analysis, the weather in north India will begin changing from March 26, bringing isolated rainfall initially followed by more widespread activity in subsequent days.
"A series of western disturbances is likely to continue affecting the region until mid-April," Dahiya stated. "On March 27, the spread of rain will increase with scattered moderate rain and thundershowers expected across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Temperatures will dip again as a result."
He further warned that a stronger weather system around Sunday to Monday could bring a more widespread spell of rain and storms. Dahiya also highlighted potential risks to agriculture, noting that standing wheat crops could be vulnerable during this period and advising farmers to remain vigilant.
