The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a critical weather warning for Himachal Pradesh, forecasting another intense spell of inclement weather from April 24 to 28. This alert comes after the state experienced a significant 28% excess rainfall during the current month, raising concerns about potential disruptions and safety hazards.
Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts
A yellow alert has been officially declared for several key districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Hamirpur. Residents and authorities in these areas are advised to prepare for severe weather phenomena from April 25 to 28. The forecast specifically warns of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, which could pose risks to infrastructure, agriculture, and daily activities.
Additionally, the meteorological experts have indicated that snowfall is likely in the higher reaches of the state during this period. This prediction adds another layer of complexity to the weather scenario, potentially affecting transportation and tourism in elevated regions.
Excess Rainfall and Temperature Extremes
Himachal Pradesh has already recorded above-normal rainfall this month, with 61.2mm of precipitation measured up to April 22, compared to the typical average of 47.9mm. - Mandi: 34.4°C
- Solan: 31.5°C
- Bhuntar: 33°C
Among popular tourist destinations, Dharamshala was the warmest with a high of 31°C, followed by Shimla at 26.5°C and Manali at 26.3°C. The forecasted weather change could bring temporary cooling but also challenges for visitors and locals alike.
