A jeweller was robbed of gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 65 lakh and cash of Rs 1.5 lakh after three motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly threw chilli powder into his eyes and snatched his bag in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district on Friday evening.
Incident Details
The incident took place around 8:30 pm in the Khatrana locality under Shikohabad police station limits. Hariom Verma, who runs Jai Maa Kali Jewellers in Qureshi market, was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop. Verma, who has been living with his family in a rented accommodation in Khatrana for the past five years, was about 50 metres from his residence when the incident occurred.
Attack and Robbery
According to his complaint, three men were already present at the spot. One of the assailants allegedly threw chilli powder into his eyes, forcing him to stop. The other two then pushed him into a roadside drain and attempted to snatch a bag hanging from the motorcycle's handlebar. When the bag did not come off easily, the robbers used a knife to cut the strap before fleeing with it.
The bag contained approximately 450 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 1.45 lakh in cash.
Police Investigation
Based on Verma's complaint, an FIR was registered at Shikohabad under BNS Section 304(2) (robbery) against three unidentified assailants. SSP (Firozabad) Aditya Langeh said, "Information was received about a robbery involving a jeweller between 8:30 pm and 8:45 pm. According to the complainant, three unidentified youths on a motorcycle robbed him of cash and other belongings before fleeing. Six teams have been formed. Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, an intensive investigation is underway."
