NAMAKKAL: Torrential rain battered Tiruchengode and its surrounding areas from Friday night until Saturday morning, inundating low-lying neighborhoods and disrupting traffic. Localities such as Pattarai Medu, Kavathi, Kootapalli, Manickampalayam, Mallasamudram, Thokkavadi, and Elachipalayam experienced heavy downpours accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds.
Water stagnation on the Tiruchengode–Salem Road caused significant traffic disruptions. Vehicles were rerouted, and some cars passing through the inundated sections appeared to drift in the floodwater, according to M Suresh, a resident. In low-lying pockets like Kootapalli and Pattarai Medu, rainwater entered several houses, leaving residents distressed.
Despite the inconvenience, the rain brought welcome relief to the public and farmers who had been enduring intense heat. The downpour provided a respite from the scorching temperatures that had prevailed in the region.
The heavy rainfall also led to power outages in some areas as a precautionary measure. Local authorities are monitoring the situation and have advised residents to stay indoors unless necessary. Emergency services are on standby to assist those affected by the flooding.
