Residents welcomed the rain and hail, as it effectively lowered temperatures that had been exceeding the 40°C mark over the past two to three days, offering a respite from the intense heat.

According to official meteorological data, Sangli recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6°C, with the minimum rising to 25.6°C. Evening humidity levels reached a high of 74%, indicating the muggy conditions that preceded the storm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph, which is expected to persist until April 22.

While the harvesting of horticultural and rabi crops has largely concluded in Sangli district, officials have expressed serious concern about the mango crops. District agricultural superintendent Vivek Kumbhar highlighted the potential risk, stating, "The only worry is about mangoes, especially Kesar mango grown over nearly 2,000 hectares in Sangli district, which may have suffered damage due to hailstorms and gusty winds." This raises alarms for local farmers and the agricultural economy, as mangoes are a key crop in the region.
Precautionary Measures in Kolhapur
In Kolhapur, authorities took proactive steps by temporarily cutting electricity supply in the city and parts of rural areas as a precautionary measure. Officials explained that this shutdown was implemented to prevent damage to electrical infrastructure in case of tree falls on power lines, which could lead to longer repair times and extended outages, ensuring public safety and minimizing disruption.
