During the visit, discussions centered on the ecological importance of these areas, boundary demarcation, inter-departmental coordination, and the formulation of long-term conservation measures. The aim is to safeguard the fragile wetland and forest ecosystems that are vital for biodiversity.
Bordoibam Bilmukh Bird Sanctuary: A Key Habitat
The Bordoibam Bilmukh Bird Sanctuary, an 11.25 square kilometer wetland located on the border of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts, serves as a crucial breeding and wintering ground for migratory waterfowl, most notably the large Whistling Teal. Over 181 bird species have been recorded within its boundaries, highlighting its importance for avian conservation.
Aditya Vikram Yadav emphasized the irreplaceable nature of these ecosystems, stating, "These steps are essential for building a robust and lasting conservation framework." The joint visit underscores the commitment of both districts to collaborative environmental stewardship.
