Chandigarh Sees Coolest June Morning in 15 Years

Chandigarh: Gusty winds, intermittent showers and overcast skies brought an unusual June chill to the city on Friday, with Chandigarh recording its lowest minimum temperature for the month in 15 years.

The minimum settled at 19.9°C — 6°C below normal — the lowest for June since 2011 (18.7°C). The sharp dip came amid widespread rain and thunderstorm activity, offering rare relief from the usual pre-monsoon heat.

IMD data showed 21.7mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30am, followed by 4.4mm till 5.30pm. The maximum temperature also stayed below normal at 33.5°C, around 5°C lower than average. Humidity ranged between 45% and 90%.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds were reported at several places across Punjab and Haryana, with light to moderate rain at most locations and isolated hail.

Residents experienced a distinctly cool June morning, with cloudy skies and breezy conditions keeping daytime temperatures in check.

The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to rise gradually thereafter, with minimums likely to climb from 22°C to 26°C and maximums from 35°C to 38°C by mid-next week.
