The city of Ahmedabad experienced unusually warm weather conditions on Friday, recording nighttime temperatures significantly higher than seasonal averages, according to the latest data from the India Meteorological Department.
Temperature Anomaly in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad recorded a minimum temperature of 21.1 degrees Celsius, which marks a substantial six degrees above the normal range for this time of year. The maximum temperature also climbed above average, settling at 31.4 degrees Celsius, one degree higher than typical seasonal expectations.
Weather officials indicate that residents should prepare for similar conditions in the immediate future. The minimum temperature is likely to remain around 20 degrees Celsius on Saturday, maintaining the pattern of warmer-than-usual nights.
Regional Weather Patterns Across Gujarat
The unusual warmth extended across multiple cities in Gujarat, with the IMD bulletin confirming that all major urban centers recorded minimum temperatures above the 20-degree mark. Naliya registered 13.6°C, while Bhuj recorded 16°C and Kandla reached 17.5°C.
Meteorologists have observed a significant shift in wind patterns that may be contributing to the temperature anomaly. The wind direction has changed to northeasterly to easterly, according to the latest IMD weather bulletin.
IMD Forecast and Public Engagement
The weather department's forecast for Gujarat suggests that no substantial change in minimum temperatures is expected during the next 48 hours. However, a gradual decline of 2-3 degrees is very likely over the region thereafter.
Meanwhile, IMD Ahmedabad participated in educational outreach on Friday by hosting more than 200 students and teachers as part of the curtain-raiser event for the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025. Visitors explored the IMD observatory, cyclone warning centre, and upper-air observation laboratory, and witnessed a meteorological balloon launch.
Dr Ashok Kumar Das, head of IMD Ahmedabad, explained that the event aimed to raise awareness about IISF, which is scheduled to be organized in Panchkula from December 6.
