According to Madukkarai forest ranger Arun, the elephant had wandered from the Madukkarai reserve forest and entered agricultural land in the Kuppanur area. The situation turned critical on Saturday night when the pachyderm became trapped in a deep, muddy pit on a local farm. Alert residents who spotted the distressed animal promptly notified forest officials, setting the stage for a coordinated rescue effort.

On Sunday morning, a dedicated team from the forest department launched a challenging rescue mission that lasted approximately three hours.
