Rogue Elephant Causes Chaos in Hazaribag Village
A solitary elephant went on a destructive spree in Hazaribag district this week. The animal targeted Godhiya village in Tatijharia block during the night hours between Wednesday and Thursday.
Crops and Property Suffer Heavy Damage
The elephant completely destroyed standing crops belonging to three local farmers. Forest officials confirmed the animal raided pea, potato, onion, and garlic fields. The pachyderm also knocked down boundary walls of several buildings in the village.
Three farmers experienced significant financial losses from this incident. Tulsi Mahto, Dwarika Mahto, and Balo Mahto saw their agricultural investments wiped out in a single night.
Forest Department Responds to Crisis
Local forester Sanjeet Ravidas explained that forest officials are actively tracking the elephant. Their team is working to drive the animal away from populated areas. "We are urging villagers to maintain distance and avoid provoking the elephant," Ravidas stated.
The forester emphasized the animal's dangerous nature. "This is the same aggressive elephant that killed two people in Sadar and Katkamdag blocks last week," he added. The elephant apparently strayed from its herd before beginning this destructive pattern.
Ongoing Safety Concerns
Forest officials continue to monitor the situation closely. They warn that the elephant remains unpredictable and potentially dangerous to anyone who approaches it. The department's priority is ensuring public safety while attempting to guide the animal back to safer territory.
