Putin and Zelenskyy Congratulate Trump on 80th Birthday in Separate Calls
Putin, Zelenskyy Call Trump on 80th Birthday

On his 80th birthday, US President Donald Trump received separate phone calls from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as reported by multiple news agencies.

Putin-Trump Conversation

According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, the conversation between Putin and Trump lasted approximately 55 minutes and was described as friendly and frank. The two leaders discussed the conflicts in Ukraine and Iran, as well as potential future contacts between Washington and Moscow. Putin extended birthday wishes to Trump, while Trump conveyed greetings from First Lady Melania Trump.

This was the first phone call between the two leaders in a month and a half, following their last conversation on April 29. Ushakov stated that Putin also sent a congratulatory message highlighting Trump's exceptional character traits that contributed to his success as a person and politician. Trump was reportedly touched by these words and noted that Putin was the first foreign leader to call him at the White House.

No gifts were sent by Putin for Trump's birthday, Ushakov added. It was also agreed that US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are closely involved in Iranian affairs, would travel to Russia in the near future for further discussions.

Zelenskyy's Call

CNN reported that Putin told Trump that if Zelenskyy wants a meeting, he should come to Moscow—an offer that Zelenskyy has consistently rejected. Trump also spoke with Zelenskyy, who congratulated him on his birthday. Zelenskyy described their discussion as detailed, covering many key topics, including peace. He added that they agreed to discuss further during the G7 Summit in France this week.
