MSETCL Invests Rs643 Crore for Kumbh Mela 2027 Power Grid Upgrade

Nashik: The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL) has embarked on a strategic initiative to strengthen the regional power grid in preparation for the Kumbh Mela 2027. With developmental works valued at Rs643 crore, the company aims to ensure a seamless and reliable power supply for the millions of pilgrims expected to visit Nashik and Trimbakeshwar during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

Key Infrastructure Projects

The projects include the upgrade of the 220 kV substation at Vilholi (Rajurbahula), the 400 kV substation at Pimpalgaon (Sarole), the 220 kV substation at Mhasarul, and the 132 kV substation at Panchavati (MERI). These enhancements are designed to bring approximately 2,000 MW of additional power capacity to the region.

Timeline and Implementation

Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of MSETCL, emphasized that the projects must be commissioned before December 2026, given that the Simhastha Mela commences in June 2027. He stated, "All essential civil and structural work must be completed before the onset of the monsoon." The December 2026 deadline is critical to allow sufficient time for system testing prior to the event.

Power Supply Capacity

Typically, a 220 kV substation can deliver around 400 MW, a 400 kV substation delivers approximately 1,000 MW, and a 132 kV substation provides about 250 MW. Consequently, Nashik will gain an additional 2,100 MW of power supply.

A senior MSETCL official remarked, "The infrastructure will ensure smooth and quality power supply not only during the event but also for industries thereafter. This will be a major asset for Nashik's development."

Support and Monitoring

To address potential bottlenecks, contractors have been assured that the administration will provide all necessary support and streamline approvals to avoid delays. The CMD has instituted a rigorous monitoring mechanism, with project progress reviews every 15 days to maintain momentum.
