The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG re-examination commenced on Sunday for nearly 23 lakh candidates, with security tightened across all test centres following allegations of a paper leak in the original exam.
Massive Turnout and Security Measures
According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), the re-exam is being conducted at 3,000 centres across India. Candidates began arriving early, with frisking and identity verification checks in place. The NTA deployed additional observers and installed CCTV cameras at every centre to ensure a fair process.
"We have implemented strict protocols to prevent any malpractice. Candidates are allowed only with admit cards and valid ID proof," said an NTA official.
Background of the Re-exam
The Supreme Court ordered the re-examination after it was found that the original NEET UG paper was leaked on the dark web and social media platforms. The CBI is investigating the leak, which affected the integrity of the exam. The NTA cancelled the earlier results and announced the re-test.
"This is a crucial exam for medical aspirants, and we want to ensure a level playing field," the official added.
Response from Candidates
Candidates expressed mixed feelings. "We were anxious, but the arrangements seem better this time. I hope the results are fair," said Priya Sharma, a candidate from Delhi. Many students travelled from remote areas to appear for the test.
The exam is being held in two shifts: morning and afternoon. Results are expected within two weeks.
