India and Slovakia on Monday signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in education, research, talent mobility, and technology, strengthening bilateral ties. The agreements were formalized in a Joint Statement issued during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Bratislava, following delegation-level talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Labour Migration and Skill Mobility
A key MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Labour Migration was signed to facilitate the orderly, safe, and legal movement of workers while streamlining information exchange between regulatory authorities. The leaders expressed support for the mobility of skilled professionals, noting the Comprehensive Framework of Cooperation on Mobility agreed between India and the European Union in January 2026. A Social Security Agreement is also being pursued to safeguard the welfare and social protection of working professionals engaged in mobility between the two countries.
Cultural and Film Collaboration
To boost soft-power connectivity, an MoU on Audio-visual Creation was signed, providing a structured framework for collaboration in film and media production. Both sides agreed to promote cultural exchanges, tourism, and people-to-people contacts through regular exchanges of artists, exhibitions, and festivals, encouraging greater tourism flows in both directions.
Higher Education and Research
A separate MoU on Higher Education and Research was executed to strengthen academic linkages and foster long-term institutional partnerships. The pact emphasizes student, researcher, and faculty exchanges, with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as well as humanities disciplines. Both leaders encouraged enhanced mobility and diversification of collaborations between higher education institutions.
Prime Minister Modi announced that the agreements will enhance the mobility of professionals and skilled workers, lauding it as a step towards close coordination on the global platform.
