The sister of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has made shocking allegations about his treatment in prison, claiming authorities have completely cut off communication with his family and are subjecting him to illegal isolation conditions.
Complete Information Blackout on Khan's Condition
Noreen Niazi, Khan's sister, revealed in an emotional interview that her family has been kept completely in the dark about the former leader's wellbeing. The communication blackout has lasted for four consecutive weeks, with even scheduled legal and family meetings being abruptly cancelled without explanation.
"We don't know anything. They are not telling us anything, nor are they letting anybody meet him," Niazi stated during her conversation with ANI. She expressed particular concern about party members who had official appointments to meet the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, only to be blocked from entering the prison facility.
Violation of Prison Regulations Exposed
Niazi provided disturbing details about Khan's prison conditions, highlighting what she described as clear violations of standard jail procedures. According to Pakistani jail manual regulations, no prisoner should be kept in isolation for more than four days. However, she revealed that Khan experienced three weeks of solitary confinement last year and is currently facing similar treatment.
During these isolation periods, the former prime minister endured additional hardships including electricity being deliberately switched off and being denied access to reading materials. "He is going through a tough time alone. He is in isolation... The same has been done now," Niazi explained, referring to her last meeting with her brother.
Unprecedented Crackdown on Supporters
The situation outside Adiala Jail has turned increasingly tense, with Niazi describing treatment of supporters and family members as unprecedented in Pakistan's history. Women, children, and elderly individuals have faced physical violence from authorities without any apparent concern for consequences.
"No one has ever disrespected women like this, nor has anyone been oppressed this way. This is the first time in Pakistan that these people have been allowed to beat up people like there won't be any consequences," she stated, emphasizing that the world is watching the deteriorating situation.
Niazi didn't mince words when characterizing the current political climate, comparing it to "Hitler-era-like repression" and describing Pakistan as entering its "darkest period." She warned that public anger is reaching a breaking point, suggesting that "there will be a spark among people soon" if the oppression continues.
The allegations come amid growing concerns about Khan's health, with prison officials maintaining that the former leader is in "completely good health" while refusing to provide transparent verification of his condition. Khan has been detained since August 2023, with prominent PTI leaders including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi continuing to be denied access to him.
