Vadodara: For the second consecutive day, rain accompanied by strong winds and hail was reported in isolated locations in Kalol taluka of Panchmahal district and Lunawada taluka of Mahisagar district. This unusual weather pattern has raised concerns among farmers and brick kiln owners in the region.
Weather Conditions
Hail and thundershowers were reported in parts of Kalol and Lunawada talukas, with weather conditions changing abruptly in the evening. Rain with gusting winds affected several locations in both talukas, while areas near Kalol also received hail. This marks the second straight day that rain and hail have been recorded in these two districts.
Impact on Agriculture
Farmers expressed fears of crop damage due to the sudden hailstorm and heavy rain. The hail can cause significant harm to standing crops, especially wheat, mustard, and vegetables, which are currently in their growing stages. The strong winds may also lead to lodging of crops, further reducing yields.
Disruption to Brick Kilns
Kalol taluka is home to many brick kilns, and owners reported that operations were disrupted by the rain and hail. The wet conditions make it difficult to produce and store bricks, leading to potential financial losses. The unpredictable weather has forced many kilns to halt production temporarily.
Local authorities have advised residents to stay indoors during the inclement weather and take precautions to protect property and livestock. The meteorological department has forecast more thundershowers in the coming days, keeping the region on alert.
